Hi Colts!

The rollover has officially happened, and we are in the 26-27 school year. You've got about 2.5 weeks to finish all of your summer projects! (I personally feel like I'm still catching up from April of last year, but don't mind me.)

10th-12th graders and families, I'm glad to have you back at AHS! I'm sure you are on pins and needles for all of my fun emails again. But seriously, I hope you can join me in telling everyone how much we just love this place.

9th graders and new families, WELCOME!! I try to communicate with you through email as needed. I'll usually send an email monthly with important dates and then as needed when things come up.

I know there are a million ways that the school and district are communicating information to you. Quite honestly, emails directly from the principal are becoming a bit outdated, and half of the info I send in these is already shared somewhere else in a faster and cooler-looking method. But it's my therapy to write and share my journey in raising kids with you. I hope you see these as a way to get info and also feel more connected to me as your principal (and as a parent who went through all of this too). I'll usually give some dates and info at the beginning and then have some reflection at the end for anyone wanting to read it.

And, as a reminder, these emails are really me typing these thoughts. I write, edit, rewrite, etc. It takes forever, but it's important so I do not use any AI. I don't use AI in any speeches either. It's really all me and I want to make sure you know that. (Not to knock AI though. ChatGPT has helped me analyze the personalities of my staff, find a scissor-lift rental company, and most recently, saved me from a $200 vet visit after my dog ate an entire package of oreos.)

Please be sure to follow all of our socials to hear about the great things happening at AHS and to get the first rounds of communication. In addition to those below, you'll want to join the socials of any organization your student is a part of. That info will come from your teachers and coaches.

Important Dates:

I put together a basic list of dates for you to check each month. If something is of interest to you, look for another email regarding that topic. Or get with your coach/director/etc and they'll have info for you.

For example, below you'll see dates for Registration events, Colt County Fair, Hoco, and a Pep Rally. I won't give information on those events in this email, but you will receive further info on each of those as the dates near. If your student is actually involved in those events, your coach/director will send you info.

So much. But also, so exciting! I have to tell you all...my daughter graduated last year so now both of my kids are in college. And they both actually still do the thing that they loved most during their K-12 years - baseball and volleyball. So, there's this feeling that our lives are just continuing on happily. But, when I looked at my school calendar and saw CVB (Colt Volleyball) and the upcoming pre-season stuff, it was an absolute gut punch. I miss it. A LOT. The excitement of your kid starting a new year, the constant sense of anticipation each day/week/month, and the amazing feeling of being with your kid each day are nothing to treat lightly. It's not often in life that I'd say this, but if I could go back and do the last 4 years again, I would.

Parents (and kids), you are in a really special time. Just treasure it. It's stressful because there is a lot going on, but you can find ways to do many things simultaneously. Or, you can prioritize what you really want to do and let yourself give some other stuff up. You can look at your list of things causing you anxiety and see what will truly cause you harm versus what is just a task. If you ever feel overwhelmed, come talk to me. Come find me at the next event and we can talk about life a bit. Believe me, I also get super stressed out and overwhelmed (almost all the time actually), but I've worked really hard at finding ways to manage it all...and you really can do it!

I'm so excited for you all in this stage of parenting. And I'm honored to be a part of it.
