Before she was a standout senior, before she was a multisport varsity athlete, and long before her name was called in a professional draft,听Abigail Moore听was a little girl in a t-ball uniform 鈥 the place where her lifelong passion for baseball first took root.听
That early spark has now propelled the听Arlington High School听senior onto a national stage, making her one of the first-ever players drafted into the听inaugural听听(WPBL). Moore was selected in the sixth round of the league鈥檚 first draft, earning a spot on the New York team as it prepares for its debut season in August听2026.听
For Moore, the moment her name was announced was nothing short of unforgettable.听
鈥淚t felt surreal,鈥 she said. 鈥淗earing my name called and knowing a coach looked at me and said, 鈥榊es, we want her,鈥 was one of the coolest and most meaningful moments I鈥檝e ever had.鈥听
Moore听is an all-around athlete and has听competed in baseball,听basketball,听and softball听at听Arlington High, but baseball 鈥 the sport she began playing at just four years old 鈥 has always been home.听
鈥淚 grew up in a sports household, so I was playing in the backyard as soon as I could walk,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淥nce I was old enough to join a city league team, I jumped in,听and I fell in love with the game right away.鈥听
Arlington High School varsity baseball coach听Brian Womack听saw that passion and potential听immediately.听
鈥淚 am extremely proud of her,鈥 Womack said. 鈥淪ince day one when I met her, all she has wanted to do听is听play baseball. She could play any sport she wanted to, and I believe she would not only be successful, but great at it. She has already proven that in basketball and on the softball diamond last season.鈥听
The WPBL鈥檚 seven-week season marks the first professional opportunity of its kind, opening doors for elite female baseball players nationwide. For Womack, the moment he learned Moore had been drafted is one听he鈥檒l听always remember.听
鈥淚 got chills when I heard the news,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e had spoken about it a couple听weeks听earlier听and she was not sure if she would be drafted. Such a cool moment when I got the text from her saying, 鈥楴ew York, here I come.鈥欌听
Beyond her athletic ability, Moore also shines in the classroom. She is ranked second in her class 鈥 an accomplishment Womack says reflects who she is at her core.听
鈥淪he鈥檚 the BEST,鈥 Womack said. 鈥淭op two in her class. Highly motivated to put the work in on and off the field. A leader. A competitor. Coachable.鈥听
Moore says the support from her Arlington High coaching staff has played a huge role in her journey.听
鈥淭he support from the Arlington High School coaches has been incredible,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hey鈥檝e backed me every step of the way, constantly encouraging me and pushing me to be my best.鈥听
As听Moore听prepares to join the WPBL and compete alongside some of the most talented women in the sport,听she鈥檚听ready for what听lies ahead.听
鈥淚鈥檓 excited for the chance to continue my baseball career at the highest level alongside women who share the same passion and drive that I do,鈥 she said.听
She also hopes her journey inspires younger athletes 鈥 especially girls who dream of following her path.听
鈥淣ever give up,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淲omen鈥檚 sports are gaining recognition like never before, and听it鈥檚听our time to shine. Set clear goals, work toward them with intention, and always believe in yourself 鈥 even when the path gets tough.鈥听
