From the halls of听Bowie High School听to听leading one of the most ambitious space exploration听missions in history,听鈥檚 journey is a powerful example of where curiosity and courage can lead.听And it all started here in Arlington.听
A proud Bowie听alumna, Glaze discovered her passion for math and science early on听鈥 drawn听to the way complex physical processes could be explained through elegant equations. That passion grew at the听, where听her听volcanology class sparked a career that would eventually take her far beyond Earth.听
Today, Glaze serves听as the acting associate administrator for听鈥檚 Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, helping guide the听 program as it prepares to return humans to the moon and eventually send astronauts to Mars. From overseeing cutting-edge spacecraft to working with international partners around the world, her work is helping shape the future of human space exploration.听
But her path听wasn鈥檛听always predictable.听听
鈥淚 never thought I would end up at NASA headquarters, let alone听leading听a human exploration program,鈥 she said.听听
Time and again, Glaze chose to step outside her comfort zone听鈥撎齭aying 鈥測es鈥 to opportunities that felt听uncertain听that听ultimately听opened听doors to听an incredible听career.听听
鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to expand beyond your comfort zone,鈥 Glaze said.听鈥淭hat is where you learn new things that can inspire you to do more.鈥听
For the Bowie community, her story is especially meaningful.听听
鈥淪eeing a Bowie alum be part of history is incredibly inspiring for our students,鈥澨齭aid Bowie principal Lee Jones.听鈥淎ny time someone from our city accomplishes something remarkable, it鈥檚 a big deal听鈥撎but when that person walked the same halls, it makes it even more meaningful.鈥听
That connection is powerful for students today.听听
鈥淚t reminds our students that success at that level is within their reach,鈥 Jones said. 鈥淒r. Glaze鈥檚 passion for math and science reflects the interests we see in so many of our own students. Her journey shows that with dedication and belief in themselves, they can achieve greatness.鈥听
