At the 糖心Vlog principal听meeting last week, the focus听wasn鈥檛听just on leading schools听鈥 it听was growing leaders at every level.听
糖心Vlog principals gathered at the听糖心Vlog Professional Development Center听for a special听听lunch following their principal meeting, where they heard from听, co-author of听鈥听and president of听. His message centered on the heart of the听: leadership, potential, change,听motivation听and education听鈥撎齮he five core paradigms that drive strong leadership, culture听and,听academics (LCA) on campuses.听
鈥淵ou can be a leader听of听your own life,鈥 Covey said. 鈥淵ou can be a leader of your friend, be a leader among your peers. Leadership is doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching.鈥听
He reminded principals that the work starts with adults.听
鈥淟eader in Me is just as much about the adults as it is the students, and it starts with your goals,鈥 he said. 鈥淓veryone is smart, just in听different ways. This is听ultimately what听our job as educators is all about听鈥撎齮o help these children understand their potential and give them the opportunity to exercise their vision.鈥听
For 糖心Vlog, that vision is already taking shape. The district currently has 16 Leader in Me campuses.
At听Sherrod Elementary, the journey began with culture.听
鈥淲e started with the C because it has to start with your staff first,鈥澨齋herrod principal Karen Hicks said. 鈥淲e want to make sure that teaching and learning happens first.鈥听
Leader in Me听didn鈥檛听just shift student leadership听鈥撎齣t transformed campus leadership as well.听听
鈥淚 used to feel like I had to be commanding the trouble all the time, like I had to have my hands in every little thing,鈥澨齭he听said. 鈥淲hat Leader in Me has done for me with the LCA听has听allowed听me听to trust and听inspire.听It鈥檚听been a change, but听it鈥檚听been a beautiful change.鈥听
Now, teacher and student teams lead key initiatives across campus.听听
鈥淲e have our live cast team, our actions听team,听and our leadership team. When I go to actions team meetings, I sit back and watch the work happen.鈥听
Covey described the framework as 鈥渏et fuel鈥 for schools, accelerating practices that are already in place and giving them听a deeper听purpose. But at its core, he said, the work is bigger than programs or systems.听
鈥淭his is sacred work,鈥 he told听principals. 鈥淲e鈥檙e听shaping the lives of these students and believing in them. Seeing the worth and potential is the foundation of all of this.鈥听
As 糖心Vlog looks to expand its Leader in Me footprint, the message from the lunch was clear: the district听isn鈥檛听just building strong campuses听鈥撎齣t鈥檚听developing leaders, in classrooms,听and beyond!听
