Young students bring MLK’s legacy to life
At Young Junior High School, seventh graders don鈥檛 just learn about Martin Luther King Jr.鈥檚 legacy 鈥 they bring it to life.听听
For the past nine years, the school鈥檚 English department has inspired students to honor MLK Day by serving their community in meaningful ways.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 always so worth it,鈥 said English teacher Kayla Long. 鈥淚t鈥檚 so heartwarming and fulfilling to see our students making a difference in the community.鈥听
This year, students took action all across Arlington. They cleaned parks, volunteered at local churches, read books to students at Remynse Elementary and spent time at Mission Arlington. The school even partnered with local organization , creating bracelets and writing heartfelt letters for care boxes that support victims of domestic violence.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 so amazing that these students can be leaders at the age that they are,鈥 Long said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 even better to be able to show them how proud we are of them.鈥听
You may have even seen the students in action on , where they highlighted the students鈥 work, showcasing how small acts of kindness can drive powerful change.听
鈥淚 am immensely proud of the students and the teachers for fostering such an impactful project,鈥 said Young principal Kirsten Lundin. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not just an act of service 鈥 it鈥檚 a great way of teaching responsibility and care for the community.
