There have been two Swift Elementary buildings in Arlington, the original was Arlington’s first post-World War II building on Summit Street. It was first called West Side School but later changed to honor Ruby Ray Swift, an outstanding teacher at the school. The new Swift building opened in 1973 on land that the school district took as partial payment when UTA bought the old building and site to enlarge its campus.
